Carl Jung Series: Be Convinced

“Be the man through whom you wish to influence others. Mere talk has always been counted hollow, and there is not trick, however artful, by which this simple truth can be evaded in the long run. The fact of being convinced and no the thing we are convinced of — this is what has always, and at all time, worked.” – Carl Jung Psychological Reflections

If we aspire to become a certain person one day who will have an impact on the world, becoming that person is the goal. However, there is a temptation that can keep us inactive in achieving it. It is being stuck in the bliss of the ideal that we aspire to, thinking of it, imagining it, talking of it, and never looking away. Why? Because then we would be faced with the un-blissful state of having to work towards achieving it. We would face the first step, ground zero, the ultimate rookie stage.

If we continue to imagine the end state of our goals, talk about them and discuss them with others, these are mere words. We cannot trick the world into recognizing our words for what they could achieve. An aspiration is hollow. It is the work we do and the results we achieve that fill the void and become true substance.

Do not stay imagining, do not talk of the person you wish to become. You must be it. You must become it day by day, until after long years, you will have risen yourself up to a stature you never truly thought possible. You will be living what you preach, be walking the walk with courage, and leaving mere words to those trapped by fear of action, and failure.

Be convinced of your dreams. Then, you will live them.
