We get what we deserve

“Attend to the matter which is before you, whether it is an opinion or an act or a word. You get what you deserve: for you choose rather to become good tomorrow than to be good today.” – Marcus Aurelius Meditations VIII: 22

Most of us aspire to be better in a sense. But we plan to be better later, tomorrow, after we get some things in order first.

But why wait? Now is the moment we are given – the present. Now is what we can chance, when we can change.

Choose to be good today, now, and do that for the rest of our lives. Odds are we will improve, grow stronger, more confident, able, and full of heart and spirit.

Do not put things off until later and let excuses take hold like a sweet poison. We only decay when we delay.

So attend to that which is before us with spirit and cheer. Focus in on what we are doing and choose to do the right thing now.

Do we need to get our finances in order? Do it.

Do we need to mend a relationship? Do it.

Do we need to improve our health? Do it.

Do we need to build our dreams and escape our present depression? Do it.

Do we need to treat ourselves and others better? Do it.

We know what we need to do, and the most immediate, poisonous obstetrical in our way is ourselves and our excuses.

If we wish to be better tomorrow, be better today.

Today will always become tomorrow. But tomorrow will never become today.

Either way, we get what we deserve.
