Pride is often the cause of error. We refuse to show humility and admit the error of our ways. Instead, we cling to our pride and unleash it like a torrent of fire, ready to burn everything down in its path.
Yet, pride can also be good. But what is good pride? It is when we have too much humility and allow ourselves to be humiliated. We torture ourselves with doubt and negative self-talk, bringing ourselves down to the status of a bug. The flame is tempered to the point it will go out.
This is where good pride will save you. Like a blazing sun in the dark space of your soul, it will ignite you, light you up, and give you the combustible fusion of spirit to carry you into and on through the world and life.
That is a pride we can never be without.
At times, we have too much pride. An uncontrollable flame. A sun with no rain.
Other times we have too little pride. A pathetic flame sitting in the mud, a swamp, choked with wet slime. A humiliated flame.
If we are honest with ourselves, we will know when our pride is a wild fire, or when it is barely alive.
Sometimes we must cool ourselves and stay our fire storm. Perhaps douse our pride fire with some gentle rain of humility.
Other times, we must ignite and burn like a sun, and scorch the choking swamp of excess humiliation.
Let the rain fall upon the forest fire,
the fire blaze upon the festering swamp,
only to burn steady, and true.
