If you make a mistake and do not correct it, this is called a mistake. – Confucius
We are human and therefore imperfect. Being imperfect, we will always make mistakes.
It is when we feel the pangs of conscience, guilt, regret or shame, and do not correct our actions, that mistakes are cemented as true mistakes.
Be not ashamed of mistakes and thus make them crimes. – Confucius
If we hold on to shame of our mistakes and do not correct them, they will fester into crimes. We will degrade our character and invite corruption to grow in our soul.
This make us stunted versions of ourselves and keep us from reaching our true potential.
The same goes for our community, society, and civilization. All of us in aggregate making mistakes, not correcting them, and hiding from them in shame, we invite corruption, crime, and overall decay in our world.
Now, to correct mistakes, face our shame, and prevent our imperfections from sliding into crime and corruption, is to conquer our lower selves and do our part to improve the world.
Our repeated mistakes can either be a destroying force, showing the world we are lowly beasts deserving or our shame, or a healing force, showing the world we are people full of courage and nobility, deserving of praise.
Run from your mistakes, destroy the world.
Face your mistakes, heal the world.
At the least, seek not to destroy, but to heal, yourself.
